Compatible with all 5.25" floppy disk drives (internal or external)
For retro computer users, that includes Commodore 8-bit machines , Atari 8-bit and add-on external 5.25” drives for the BBC Micro & Master.
Also suitable for for early IBM PC (and clones) and Amstrad PC 512 and 640.
5.25"” disks are likely to be 30 – 40 years old now and their storage history is often unknown. Dirt and dust on the disks is to be expected, but If stored in a loft, the disk surface often has mould growing on the disk media surface. This is bad for the read/write heads of the drive, clogging them often badly.
The cleaning disks, when used with our specially formulated head cleaning fluid, clean and restore sensitive magnetic and optical read / write heads, remove nicotine, tape residues, metallic oxides and mould.
To use, apply 3 - 4 drops of cleaning fluid onto the cleaning material through the disk window. Pop the disk in the drive and run it as if it were a normal floppy disk. Run for about 5 seconds, then remove. Leave a minute or two for the fluid to dry before trying to load a data disk.
Tick usage block on the cleaning disk to keep tabs on how many cleaning cycles the disk has performed. They are usually good for at least 12 cycles, but I have used mine for up to 20 times before staining becomes clearly visible. on the disk cleaning surface.
When this happens, it’s time to buy a new one.
